Lajee holds farewell event for Palestinian mother, Mazyounah AbuSrour

Last week, Aida Refugee Camp held a farewell event for Mazyounah AbuSrour, a lady who has witnessed the Nakba and mother of prisoner Nasser AbuSrour, who is serving a lifetime sentence in Israeli jail and has been in prison for 26 years.

Mazyounah left to Dublin, Ireland, where she will speak to crowds about her experience of refuge since the 1948 Nakba and life in the camp at the Palestinian Freedom Conference in Dublin on 12-13 May.

The farewell event was attended by family and friends of Mazyounah and residents of Aida camp, where Lajee center’s Dance and Music groups held performances and played Palestinian songs.

Director of Lajee Center, Salah Ajarma said that this visit is a living message of a Palestinian mother suffering from the Nakba, first intifada and till this day, saying that she is now an icon for Palestinian struggle and an envoy for all Palestinian people.

Ajrama pointed out that the gathering represents a message of attribution and appreciation for the steadfastness and struggle of this woman, adding that the children, youth at the camp, and all members of Lajee center, send a message of appreciation to Mazyouna for her journey.

Ajarma also thanked friends in Ireland who are holding a wide conference to support Palestinian people on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Nakba, including chair of Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Faten Tamimi, especially as the Dublin City Council recently put forward a motion to support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign and discontinuing business dealings with Hewlett-Packard.

Mazyounah will be speaking at the conference on 12-13 May, next to Palestinian figures and politicians, including Palestinian MK Haneen Zoabi, Lubna Shomali from BADIL Center, and co-founder of BDS Omar Barghouti.
